The Case for Advertising

iconIt is an unwritten expectation that if you are paying to access a website, you do not see advertisements. On the Internet, free stuff has ads, paid stuff does not. Right?

I think this is short-sighted, and here's why.

Answering your suggestions

You have been wonderful over the past four days, sharing, commenting, recruiting, sending messages of support, and of course signing up. We have jumped from 508 to 601 members - thank you! - but we still have a long way to go to the 750 members we need to survive, and the 1000 we need to thrive.

Many of you have also kindly offered suggestions. Here, I'd like to answer some of the most popular ideas we hear, and tell you how you can help the most.

Behind the scenes: How Foundations and Wardrobe work

Polly Aron

Every single Saturday, without fail, come Christmas, come vacations, Easter, weddings, funerals or illness, we always publish a 2000-3000 word in-depth article at each website, with 25 or so images. That’s no quick tutorial on slapping something basic together. It’s nitty gritty, the stuff you really need to know to create great, professional historical costume, corsets, bras, and lingerie, in detail. How does it happen? Who's behind all that?

The Future for Foundations and Wardrobe

3 quarter view

Foundations Revealed and Your Wardrobe Unlock’d have, at present, about eight weeks left to live. We are in trouble, and we need your help to survive.

Over the next few days, I’m going to release three articles that tell the story of both sites, what they are, what they do, the effect they have and what they could still go on to do, including the behind-the-scenes details of how the sites actually work – I think you'll be surprised at how we make the magic happen every week.

And then, if I may, I’m going to ask for help from both members and non-members to get us back on our feet. I’ll leave it up to you to consider the evidence and decide whether to answer that call.
